How to Participate in USGBC Committees and Working Groups

USGBC Committees and Working Groups are made up of individuals who are regular employees of USGBC member organizations. The majority of committee and working group members are appointed. Calls for nominations will be sent to the membership when there are committee and working group openings. The calls will describe the scope of the committee or working group and the types of perspectives and expertise needed, and will include a link for interested individuals to submit a self-nomination for consideration. In accordance with USGBC Policies and Procedures for Committees and Working Groups (PDF), committee terms are 1 or 2 years, with a maximum service of 4 consecutive years. Working group terms are for the length of the working group, which is generally less than one year.

Current openings

  • LEED Subject Matter Experts – USGBC is looking for employees of USGBC member organizations with relevant LEED technical expertise to become possible LEED Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). LEED SMEs will not become official members of any USCBG committee, but they may assist the LEED Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs) or other LEED committees in the improvement of LEED requirements and development of new credits. Applications received for LEED SMEs will be reviewed for possible participation on LEED working groups in the future. To be considered, please complete the LEED Subject Matter Expert Survey, outlining your expertise related to the various technical areas of LEED. Interested individuals may submit their information at any time for inclusion in our database.

  • Education Events Working Groups - USGBC is currently seeking nominations and applications for the Education Events Working Groups. Volunteers contribute significantly to USGBC’s Education Events through the Education Events Committee and Working Groups. These groups help to develop the educational programs for Greenbuild, the Residential Summit, the International Forum, and the Government Summit. Members are appointed from internal recommendations, nominations, and submitted applications; all committee and working group members are regular employees of USGBC member organizations.

    You can apply for these Working Groups through the online application. The Working Group Application site will close on Thursday September 30th, 2010 at 11:59 pm PDT. Applications will not be accepted after that time.
